The Maison de la Formation Jacqueline Auriol (MFJA) was designed to bring together 2,000 students from the Mechanical Engineering center in Toulouse (INSA, ISAE and IUT) as well as a research center. This project was carried out in a global environmental approach and includes:

  • An aeronautical hall illustrating the major principles of aeronautical design;
  • Technical platforms: composites, digital chain, digital simulation and structural tests;
  • Rooms capable of accommodating physical measurements and fabrications;
  • Unmarked rooms, 2 amphitheatres and conference rooms;
  • Rooms for students.

Methodology

With 30 years of experience in the acoustics of conference rooms and multimedia integration, the acoustic firm Tisseyre + Associés has developed a joint working methodology with the architect. Indeed, the needs related to the operation of the rooms structure the choice of multimedia equipment. However, these same choices of equipment structure the architecture of the environment. This is why joint acoustic integration work with the architect is essential in order to obtain successful conference room acoustics.

Tasks

Definition of architectural and acoustic coatings

In order to guarantee the intelligibility of the conference room, natural acoustics have been favored. For this, the wall coverings of the room (designed from bio-sourced materials) were designed jointly by the acoustician and the architect. In addition, the reflective plaster ceiling ensures acoustic intelligibility at medium and long distance with non-sound voice.

Multimedia design and integration

Anticipating the democratization of the videoconferencing system, the multimedia system was designed following the notion of triptych. Thus the 3 screens (for simultaneous and differentiated use) make it possible to broadcast at the same time: a videoconference, a presentation image of support for the conference and to keep a written (or digitized) workspace in the center.

In addition, the design and integration of the multimedia contest between the architect and the acoustician has made it possible to optimize the size and position of the images to offer better visual reading comfort. The separate sound system as well as the natural acoustics of the room also ensure better auditory reading.

Finally, the design of the multimedia from the first stages of the project made it possible to integrate all the technical equipment in the office and the walls, thus guaranteeing use without a control room.
